Ryan Bolland (c/o 2004) became the Head Football Coach at Buena in 2017. After three years of teaching College and Career Seminar, Bolland moved into the science department and currently teaches AP Physics and Integrated Physics and Chemistry in addition to his football duties.
A huge supporter of multi-sport athletes, Bolland played football, basketball, and golf at Buena and is in the Buena High School Hall of Fame. He continued his education at the University of Notre Dame, earning a BA in Psychology, and the University of Mississippi, earning an MA in Curriculum and Instruction. Since 2008 he's coached football at the middle, high school, and semi-pro levels in Mississippi, Sweden, and Texas in addition to Ventura County. He's also coached high school basketball, track and field, and baseball. In 2017 he was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 4-A Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2021 the Buena Football Staff were named the Pacific View League Coaching Staff of the Year and the Ventura County Football Coaches Association Staff of the Year.
VARSITY & JV STAFF
Offensive Coordinator
Anthony Morales started coaching at Buena in 2010. During that time he has coached at every level and every offensive skill position in the program and has been the Varsity Offensive Coordinator since 2018.
Morales graduated from Buena in 1991, lettering in Football and Baseball. He was 1st Team All Channel League and All Ventura County in both sports. He still holds the Buena Football record for the longest fumble recovery for a touchdown (1990 - 97 yards against Dos Pueblos).
Morales played Baseball and Football at Ventura College (1991 - 1993) and Football at CSU Chico (1993 - 1994). Morales coached defensive backs in 1995 at CSU Chico and at Ventura College in 1996. He received a BS in Occupational Studies/Vocational Arts from CSU Long Beach.
Morales retired after 21 1⁄2 years as a police officer with the Ventura Police Department in 2022. His last position was as a Detective Corporal in the Major Crimes unit.
Quarterbacks
Adam Colman grew up in Burbank, CA. He graduated from Burbank High School in 2011, lettering in football and basketball. He was 1st Team All-Pacific League in both sports.
Colman earned his degree in Psychology from UCLA in 2015. He subsequently returned to his alma mater to teach mathematics and coach football at Burbank High School. In 2017, Colman was named the Head Football Coach at Burbank High School. In his seven years in the position, he led the Bulldogs to their 1st outright league championship in over 40 years and was named Pacific League Coach of the Year two times.
Colman married his wife, Sarah, in 2023 and the two have moved to Ventura to join the Buena community.
Asst. Offensive Line
David Paul started coaching at Buena in 1997 then moved to San Diego for college. He returned to Buena's staff in 2019 as an assistant Offensive Line coach.
Paul graduated from Buena in 1996, lettering in Football. He was 1st Team All Channel League and All Ventura County in 1995. A knee injury ended his playing career his Senior season.
Paul is married to Amy and has two children, Olivia and Jack. He works for Cottage Health in Santa Barbara.
Cornerbacks
Anthony Pelupessy brings in 23 years of football experience with time as a player and coach combined. A Buena alumnus of 2008, he played football and baseball for the Bulldogs. Pelupessy began coaching football at the high school level in 2014 as the receivers, defensive backs, and special teams coordinator for the Junior Varsity. Since then he has been coaching corners for both Varsity and Junior Varsity along with Coordinating Special Teams for both. In 2022 he was named Head Coach of the Junior Varsity with retaining the task of coaching corners and Special Teams for both JV and Varsity.
Pelupessy works as an inspector for a machine shop in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
Defensive Line
Linebackers
Carson Russell grew up in Ventura, CA. He graduated in 2022 from Buena High School and played football under Coach Bolland for 4 years. During his high school carrer he was named team Defensive MVP, 1st Team All County, All CIF, and still holds the program record for tackles in a season (133).
Russell went on to play football at Ventura College. After battling with shoulder and rib injuries, Russell decided to hang up his cleats and returned to Buena in 2023 as an assistant coaching JV & Varsity Linebackers.
FROSH STAFF
Freshmen Head Coach
Alfredo Moreno is a 2019 Buena graduate who played football and track & field, lettering in both sports. Moreno coached at the youth level with the Ventura Packers for 2 years before joining Buena's coaching staff in 2022. Moreno has coached JV and Varsity Offensive Line as well as serving as the JV Offensive Coordinator.
Moreno works security for Allied Universal.
Freshmen Assistant

Mike Villegas started coaching with the Buena Freshman team in 2020. Since that time he has worked with the Freshman team defensive backs and receivers. Mike is also a certified personal trainer, and strives to focus student athletes toward success on both the field and in the classroom.
Villegas graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara, with a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District after over 30 years of service, the last 17 years as the Executive Officer.
Villegas is married to Jeanette and has three adult children.
Freshmen Assistant
Matt Geier (pronounced "Guy-er") Brings over 20 plus years of playing and coaching experience to our staff. Geir began coaching at Buena in 2019 at the Freshman level working primarily with The Offensive and Defensive lines and LB’s and served as the Frosh Defensive Coordinator during this time.
Geier played as a youngster and continued in high school and beyond in Iowa and Nebraska. He received many honors as a player, including the opportunity to play for legendary coach Tom Osborne at Nebraska. "Football allowed me to do things I never imagined," he says.
After relocating to California he began coaching at the youth level in Santa Barbara as a way to give back and stay involved. Working with young men has always been a passion of his. After getting married he relocated to Ventura and started a family of his own. Geier’s children attended Buena. His daughter, Madison, was a 3 year Varsity golfer and his son Jackson was a 3 year Varsity football player as well as a Varsity basketball player.
Geier has owned and operated a Cosmetic Manufacturing business for over 20 years in Ventura. His plans are to retire soon and continue coaching at Buena as long as he's able.
